THE NOT-SO-SECRET DIARY OF DIVA THE SHETLAND PONY
Part 8: Show Time Again
So I have dug out the GoPro, and figured I would start trying out its many different attachments, to see what footage I could get. I realised my chest harness is fab for be able to see my hands and the horse in front of me.
Two years ago we were at intro level with not a canter in site. We were comfortably achieving good scores, when we weren't spooking and dancing around, but prelims were hell! We either couldn't get the canter or I bottled even asking for it for fear of leaving the entire arena! 1's were the norm and I had honestly got to the point of thinking it would never come!
So I’ve been recovering from my impromptu dismount at the last show. The bruise was definitely a whopper and did prevent me from being able to wear shorts on the hottest day of the year so far!
Horses have been linked to humans for centuries. We have used them for all manner of tasks, from transport to work, to war. But where do they come from? How has their use changed over the years? And how can we protect these great animals for the future?
From giant shire horses to tiny Shetland ponies, horses come in all shapes and sizes. There are so many different breeds to choose from, there’s practically a perfect pony for everybody! So if you’re just about to embark on your search for the ideal equine companion, you’ll need to do some serious reading. You need to research up on their health needs, how to care for them, what horse insurance you need to buy and so on.
I’m pleased to say I was well enough to take the old gal out for her first jumping event this year! She did not disappoint, although hesitant and nervous once in the arena she listened and trusted me, jumping nicely round the courses.
